It is a Francis Barnum pewter battlefield vignette showing:
A standing soldier supporting or carrying a wounded comrade
A moment of field rescue during combat
Emphasis on humanity and sacrifice rather than combat action
These types of scenes were popular in Barnum’s Civil War series because they balanced dramatic battlefield imagery with emotional storytelling.
